So people don't really notice or pay attention to you walking around with a GPS on your belt. I s'pose it could skuff a shiny dress belt.As others have mentioned (and the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5) I would've preferred if they left room for the mounting clip to remain installed. I'd like to be able to easily transition between holster and my mountain bike bar mount without having to unscrew the clip mount adapter.Another thing I like about it is when it's on my belt it looks like a large cell phone case. It fits my eTrex Legend HCX just fine.I like it. I haven't ruined any belts with the clip as others mentioned. The snug fit is OK with me, at least I don't have to worry about the thing popping out. Then again, I don't crawl thru the forest wearing Armani either.
The velcro fastener is easy to gum up by falling in a stream or a bit of mud/dirt, and then it's just flapping around useless- which then you "understand" why the holster keeps a death grip on your eTrex. If you're not prone to getting dirty, and aren't particularly hard on your gear, this is a "fine" holster. Quick retrieval of your eTrex will usually end up tearing the holster off your belt (and ruining your belt) repeatedly, as it's too snug for the eTex and the beltclip has no backgrip.
I can only guess that the problem must be inconsistencies in the way the product is being manufactured with some of them turning out a little too small for some of the GPS receivers they are intended to hold. It was very difficult to put my Etrex Vista HCx into this holster and still more difficult to pull it out: I had to use both hands and even then it required a lot of strain.Other reviewers report no problems with this product and I assume they are telling the truth. This is a shame because otherwise this holster appears to be well made, strong, and solid. Unfortunately, my own experience with this product is similar to C. Neblett's (see earlier review).
The only issue I've come across is that I cannot put it in the holster when I have the dash mount clip on it, but if I take the clip off the GPS, it fits great. It may be overpriced, but it will hold your Garmin far more comfortably and securely than some generic camera case. I agree with Crocuta. This holster fits my brand-new Vista HCx snuggly and perfectly.
Yet when you need to look at the unit, it's quick and easy to pull out with one hand. Sure the fit is tight. Yet the case never lets the GPSr actually get loose so you never have to worry about the eTrex slipping out.Anyway, take it from someone who has used it for a couple of years now. I have used this holster for my Garmin Vista C for over two years now and this is an excellent solution, particularly for hiking. There is no better way to carry your eTrex (new or old) than this. But it had shipped so there was nothing to be done but to wait for it and see what happened.I received the HCx and holster from Amazon today and the Vista HCx slid into the holster exactly like my older Vista C did. Now if Garmin would just make one of these for my GPSMAP 60CSx, I'd be all set.
The case has solid sides so the unit is well-protected, even if it gets knocked about a bit. I can also tell you from my experience with the older one that the holster and eTrex adapt to each other and they go from tight to nicely snug very quickly. Folks, that's a good thing (unless you like the idea of watching your expensive GPSr falling out and bouncing over the side of a cliff). You don't have to worry about it getting dinged up while in this holster.I have no idea what the previous reviewer is talking in saying this case doesn't fit Cx models because this holster absolutely DOES fit the eTrex Vista HCx. And yes, you have to give it a good tug to get it out, but that's just because the sides and back of the Vista are made of rubber so it grabs onto the material of the holster.
The unit fits snugly into the case and the flap protects it from damage on the trail. It's supposed to be. Later, I saw that review and was quite worried about it. It's also a comfortable way to carry the unit in a backpack, car glovebox, etc. I recently ordered the Vista HCx and, because I was so happy with this case with my older Vista C, I ordered another one.
